[SEATTLE, WA, February 29, 2024] - MALACARNE is proud to present the WORLD PREMIERE of the sky is the same color everywhere or on the rapture of being alive. This is a site-responsive, durational performance that combines art, history, architecture, and community engagement. the sky takes place at the 2+U Urban Village in Downtown Seattle and it investigates the complex present and history of the city without forgetting its colonized past. This piece explores how we celebrate our cities and communities while simultaneously holding the pain of its past and present. How do we continue to see the magic that is right in front of us even while everything seems to be falling apart?
Art in public space uniquely unites people in shared experiences of joy and learning, helps us to witness each others' experiences and stories actively, and inspires us to build bridges and understanding. The project the sky is not only an impressive showcase of artistic skills, but it is also a powerful tool for driving social change. MALACARNE’s partnership with Path with Art for the sky is an effort to peel back more layers and questions around modern-day colonialism, what spaces are made for who, and how utopian architecture performs in reality.
Created by Alice Gosti in collaboration with composer Paris Hurley (Object as Subject), designer Amiya Brown, costume designer Chrisine Tschirgi and performers Olivia Anderson, Margaux Gex, Akoiya Harris, kelly langeslay, Jordan MacIntosh-Hougham, Kaitlin McCarthy, Ashley Ministrina, Nia-Amina Minor, Madison Shorter, Maya Tacon, and Sonam Tshedzom Tingkhye.
