How to become a partisan
How to become a partisan
How to become a partisan (HBP) is a site-responsive 5 hour long durational performance that took place at the Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle. HBP is a project inspired by the Italian Partisan movement that fought against Nazis during WWII. HBP highlighted Italian history relevant to today given the growing fascist and neo-nazi movements across the world. It shows my capacity for organizing groups to construct large scale durational work, as well as my ability to resituate a project in different countries and contexts. This project included a residency in Italy, interviews with living Partisans who discussed why they joined the movement. HBP began with a procession across Seattle where the public was invited to remember this historical movement.
With original music by Hanna Benn.
Come diventare un partigiano
Come diventare un partigiano (CDP) is one chapter of a project that began in 2015 inspired by Italian Partisans. This movement of self-organized Italians fought against Nazis during WWII in Italy. CDP was produced by Indisciplinarte and won the 1st edition of the National Italian Council Grant promoted by DGAAP and the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Activities and Tourism. CDP is a site-responsive 5 hour long durational performance. The performance included 7 performers (3 Americans and 4 Italians), 1 light designer, 2 visual artists, 2 intergenerational choirs and a sound designer/composer. This work also included a residency in Italy and interviews with living Partisans who discussed women’s role in the fight and why they decided to join the guerrilla movement. This work sample features a short documentary including clips from the live performance and rehearsals, along with interview excerpts.
